When your garage door motor stops working, it’s usually one of two things: 1. Stripped gears. Inside your opener, the gears that drive the chain or belt can wear down or strip out completely. The motor still runs, but the door doesn’t move. 2. Motherboard failure. The “brain” of your opener controls power and signals. After years of vibration, heat, or electrical surges, it can burn out and stop sending power where it should. Both problems can make your opener stop suddenly, but they’re fixable
